He is survived by: his wife Lucretia Gibbs Townsend; his children, Josephine T. Willis of Port Royal, SC, J. Moultrie Townsend III of Port Royal, SC and John G. Townsend (Anna) of Raleigh, NC; his sisters, Joanna T. Scarborough (Bill) of Charleston and Catherine T. Taperman of Beaufort, SC; and his grandchildren, Z. Davis Willis, J. Guerin Willis, Saida L. Willis of Port Royal, SC, John M. Townsend and Marshall L. Townsend of Raleigh, NC..
