He was predeceased by : his parents, Horace L. Thornton and Hissie T. Hudgins; and his brother Jackie Thornton. He is survived by : his wife Amelia Thornton; his children, Jammie Thornton and Traci Thomas (Gene); his siblings, Jimmie Thornton, Gayle Erwin and Joann Evans (Larry); and his grandson Jacob Thomas (Casey).
