He was predeceased by : his parents, Flora Burch McLaughlin and Albert W. McLaughlin, Sr.; his wife Peggy Anne Jones McLaughlin; and his brothers, Robert H. McLaughlin and Albert W. McLaughlin, Jr..

He is survived by : his sons, W. Alex McLaughlin, Jr. (Dana) of Columbia, SC and Joey B. McLaughlin (Robin) of Effingham, SC; his grandchildren, Hannah Grace Jones McLaughlin and Daniel Joseph McLaughlin; and his sister-in-law Nobia Jones Williams of Cross Hill, SC..
