He was predeceased by : his parents, Henry Alexander and Etta Doris Jackson Dowey; and his brother-in-law Glenn Napper. He is survived by : his wife Vivian Hutto Dowey; his children, Stephen Dowey of Elgin and Jessica Ray (Jeremy) of Lugoff; his grandchildren, Ryan Dowey, Jackson Dowey, Jaydon Ray and Jenna Ray; and his siblings, Delores Napper, Frankie Dowey, Terry Dowey (Jackie) and Arnold Dowey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pine Grove Baptist Church.
