He was predeceased by: his father William Fate "W. F."; his brother Marvin Filyaw; and his niece Lynn Filyaw. He is survived by: his children, Brad Filyaw of Hartsville, SC, Billy Filyaw of Florence, Kelly Filyaw of Florence, Marion Dennis of Florence and Kristy Jones of Florence; and his siblings, Hubert Filyaw (Cheryl), Sarah Broach of Timmonsville, Polly Rose (Bobby) of Florence, Brenda Ford (Brian) of Florence, Lorie McDaniel of Effingham, Margie Lee (Joel) of Quinby and Mila Rose "Mia". He is also survived by 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren.
