He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Palmer Patton and Parris Dillard Patton of Virginia; and his siblings, Watts Patton, Edna Fleming, Margaret Thomas, Mary MacLauchlin and Stella Patton.

He is survived by: his wife Mary "Toni" Boiter Patton; his children, Sam Owen and Teressa Adair (Tom); his grandson Samuel Rory Owen; and his daughter-in-law Lesia Morris.
