He was predeceased by: his parents, John David Sweeney and Grace Sweeney Griffin. He is survived by: his wife Arethea C. Sweeney; his children, Johnathan Sweeney, Antron Sweeney (April) of Simpsonville and Sarina Brown (Karlos) of Simpsonville; his siblings, Earl Sweeney (Betty) of Simpsonville, Emily Smith (Robert) of Simpsonville and Pellar Ray (James) of Mauldin; and his stepsister Dorothy Seawright of Simpsonville. He is also survived by seven grandchildren.
