He was predeceased by: his parents, Ed Byars and Columbia "Lummie" Burgess Byars; his siblings, J. A. Byars, Henry E. Byars, William A. Byars, Marion B. Turner, Elizabeth B. Parris and Lottie B. Blanton; and his daughter-in-law Debbie Byars.

He is survived by: his wife Dell Goforth Byars; his children, Bobby "Goat" Byars, Keith, Lorene Byars and Sandra; his grandchildren, Thomas, Tina Byars, Brandon, Kayla Byars, Lori, Mike McHugh, Betsy, Scott Brown, Brian and Melanie Price; his great grandchildren, Bradley, Amanda McHugh, Morgan, Lauren McHugh, Maggie, Mollie, Maysen, Myra Byars, Charlotte, Sawyer Brown, Waylon, Weston, Wren Price and Rhett Byars; and his sibling's children, Becky Goforth Payne and David Goforth.
