She was predeceased by: her husband Franklin Smith; her parents, Wesley Whelchel and Mitchell Watkins Whelchel; and her brothers, Roy Boone Whelchel, Wesley Whelchel, Jr., Walter Earl Whelchel, Leo Welchel and Billy A. Whelchel.
She is survived by: her children, Roy Smith, David Smith of Summerville, John Smith (Lisa) of Gaffney and Deborah Poole (John) of Moore, SC; her sisters, Carolyn Silver (Bobby) of Gastonia and Betty Hughes of Cowpens; and her grandchildren, Tami Enright (Michael), Joe Kelly, Trey Poole, Kevin Smith (Nicole), Lisa Ricafrente and Caleb Smith. She is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
