He was predeceased by: his father Vernon "Pinto" Eugene Scates; and his brother Wesley Goode. He is survived by: his mother Nancy Gilfillan Goode; his stepfather Ronald Goode; his sons, Shane Eugene Pennington of Gaffney and Joshua Elijah Scates of Gaffney; his siblings, Keith Goode of Gaffney, Lori Ann McMahan (Richard Aycoth) of Chesnee and Bobbi Jo Bolin (Wayne) of Gaffney; and his close friend Tina Pennington.
