He was predeceased by: his wife Grace Thomas McSwain Vaughn; his mother Lois Vaughn Helton; his stepfather Jim Helton; and his half-siblings, James Vaughn and Betty Lou Helton.
He is survived by: his stepchildren, Richard McSwain (Carol) of Boiling Springs, Ann McSwain Dale (Terry) of Eagle and Holly M. Henson (Glen) of Blacksburg; his stepbrother Willie L. Helton of Chesnee; and his grandchildren, Richie McSwain, Gary McSwain, Brad Spencer, Clinton Dale, Nathan Dale, Haley Spicer, Casie Baker and Jessica Greene.
