He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Lee Phillips and Mary Scruggs Phillips; and his brothers, Robert L. Phillips and Charlie Phillips. He is survived by: his wife Marlene Crowe Phillips; his children, Jonathan Phillips (Caroline) of Gaffney and Kelli Phillips Gandy (Brett) of Greer; his siblings, Dane Lee Phillips (Sara) of Gaffney, Brenda Davis (Gary) of Gaffney and Mae Ruth Martin of Spartanburg; his grandchildren, Aaron Gandy, Sadie Phillips and Andrew Gandy; and his sisters-in-law, Guynell Phillips of Gaffney and Geraldine Lindsay of Spartanburg. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
