He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Whelchel and Faye McCullough Whelchel; and his brother Freddie Whelchel. He is survived by: his wife Lucille Little Whelchel; his children, Jason Steve Whelchel (Jennifer) of Gaffney and Susan Whelchel Clary (Rocky) of Boiling Springs, NC; his siblings, Wayne Whelchel of Coral Springs, FL, Margaret Cooper of Gaffney and Sherry Wilkie (Buford) of Gaffney; and his grandchildren, Caleb Clary, Christopher Clary, Lucas Whelchel and Ava Grace Whelchel.
