He was predeceased by: his wife Ruth Hulsey Kite; his parents, Rufus Vestus Kite and Marie Kite McSwain; and his brother Wilbur Kite. He is survived by: his siblings, Rufus Kite and Betty K. Hyatt; his children, Kevin Kite of Gaffney and Kitty Adams (Arnold) of Easley; his sister Frances Daniel of Cowpens; his granddaughters, Abigail Adams Shope (Colt) and Erin Adams Henderson (Ashten); and his great grandchild Luca Foster Shope.
