George Watt Hairston Obituary

We are sad to announce that on July 13, 2025 we had to say goodbye to George Watt Hairston of Greenville, South Carolina. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Genewth Hairston and Magellan Hairston. He is survived by: his wife Elaine Hayden Hairston; his children, Amy Crockett (Jay) of Greenville and Scott Hairston (Jacqueline) of Winnetka, Illinois; and his grandchildren, Lainie, Lilly Picklesimer, Evelyn, Madeline Hairston, Chandler and Carson Crockett.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 5th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Faculty Club.

In lieu of flowers, should you wish, memorial donations may be made to the Elaine H. and George W. Hairston Student Support Fund, (https://giveto.osu.edu) a scholarship benefiting Ohio State undergraduate students majoring in History or English who demonstrate financial need, with a preference for students from the Appalachia region of Ohio.
