He was predeceased by: his parents, Preston Smith and Hattie Robinson Smith; his siblings, John Rufus Smith, Louise Mixson and Bobbie Jean Kinard; and his great grandchild Kelly Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Virginia Lightsey Smith of Early Branch; his children, Gettis Donald Smith Jr. (Kim) of Early Branch, Karen Sauls (Jake Jr.) of Brunson, Connie Smith (Glenn) of Grays and Cathy Harriott (Wayne) of Varnville; his siblings, Tommy Smith of Grays and Helen Crosby of Brunson; his grandchildren, Derrick Smith (Fallon), Lance Smith (Michaela), Brook Mason (Joshua), Paige Sauls, Hillary Mixson (Nathan) and Zachary Smith; and his great grandchildren, Sophie Smith, J. J. Crapse, Ethan Crapse, Aiden Crapse, Wyman Mason, Garrett Mason and Wrenly Mixson.
