He was predeceased by: his parents, Glenn W. Rainey and Dorothy Quattlebaum Rainey; and his sister Mary Tindal Rainey Medlin. He is survived by: his children, Jan Rainey Hoffman (John) of Baton Rouge, LA, Lloyd Rainey (Laura) of Austin, TX and Edwin; his grandchildren, Ben, Aaron, Rachel, Emily, Mikaela, Joshua, Rebekah, Sarah Hoffman, Brooke, Lindsey, Rocky, Emme and Brody Rainey; his great grandchildren, Bradley, Aaron, Aroa-Joy and Eden; his siblings, Glenn Weddington Rainey, Jr. (Jane) of Richmond, KY and Hal Griffin Rainey (Lucy) of Athens, GA; his siblings' children, Nancy and Willis; and his brother-in-law Jack Medlin of Reston, VA.
