He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Niemitalo and Hilja Niemitalo; his siblings, Martin, Veiko and Aileen Fields; his wife Margie; and his son David Charles Niemitalo.
He is survived by: his children, Linda Mattson (Glen), Donna Weisser (Thomas), Debbie Aho (Fratt), Brian Niemitalo (Shana), Bruce Niemitalo (Brenda), Patti Juuti (Shane), Craig Niemitalo, Scott Niemitalo (Karen) and James Niemitalo (Heidi); and his brother John Niemitalo. He is also survived by five grandchildren; fifty-eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
