He was predeceased by: his parents, George H. Gates and Daisy O. Gates (Nichols); and his siblings, Robert, Harold, Nancy and Janet.
He is survived by: his daughter Julie; his son-in-law Peter Kratimenos; his grandson Alex Kratimenos; his son Justin Gates; his friends, Sandra Colborn, Cyndee Colborn, Jon Dowell and Billy Ferguson; and his siblings, Loes Hemmeler, George Gates (Sonny) and Thomas Gates. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
