He was predeceased by: his parents, Larry Gordon and Frances Sink Powell. He is survived by: his wife Harriette; his children, Susan Powell Andrews (Jim) of Nashville, TN and Larry G. "Biff" Powell III (Catherine) of Charlotte, NC; and his grandchildren, Morgan Elizabeth Petersen (Dan), Caroline Frances Andrews, Holland Gibbs Andrews and Harrison Bennett Powell.
