He was predeceased by: his parents, Prince Alvin Whitman and Bessie Linnie Whitman; his son Donald Ray Whitman, II; and his siblings, Talmadge Alvin Whitman, Julian 'Mickey Whitman and Willie Kate Phillips.
He is survived by: his grandchildren, Bobbi Rae Whitman, Amy Whitman and Brandon Whitman; and his sister Linnie Ruth McCoullough of Iva. He is also survived by many great-grandchildren.
