He is survived by: his wife Helen Barfield Simmons; his children, Helen Charlene Casey, Pamela Rosa Gardner (Greg), Charles Raymond Simmons, Jr. (Debra) and Barry Allen Simmons; his grandchildren, Lauren Victoria Hull, Matthew Paul Hull, Jessica Grace Hull, Autumn Marie Simmons and Zachary Michael Holmes; his sisters, Mary Lee Willard (Oliver) and Frances Elizabeth Perry (Keith); and his brother-in-law Daryl Ellis (Alice).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
