He was predeceased by: his parents, James Lawrence and Nellie Worthen McAvoy; his former wife Verlie M. McAvoy; and his brother Holice Worther McAvoy. He is survived by: his wife Diane Morgan McAvoy; his children, Melinda Hall (Larry) of Lugoff, Dennis McAvoy (Karen) of Lugoff, Eric McAvoy (Teresa) of Lugoff, Emmanuel McAvoy (Greta) of Lugoff, Kamela I. Clackum (Chris) of Lugoff and Darrell McAvoy, Jr. of Elgin; and his siblings, Barry Dale McAvoy of Covington, Kerry Wendel McAvoy of Washington, James Edgar McAvoy of Hull, Barbara Nell Wolter of Washington and Sharon Dubois of Crawfordville. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Bethel Colony of Mercy.
