He was predeceased by: his stepfather Willard L. James; his grandparents, Fred, Gertrude Cook, Bill and Betty Harrelson; his uncle Edward G. James; and his aunt Eloise O. James.

He is survived by: his parents, Anne C. James and Hayden C. Sloan, Sr. (Brenda); his sister Christina J. Wolfe (Matt); his uncle Fred E. Cook, III (Charlotte); his aunt Shannon J. Burchette (Robert); his nephew Connor H. Wolfe; and his cousins, Stephani James (Chad), Ireland Rose, Brian G. Cook (Hillary) and Calvin Cook.
