He was predeceased by: his son Tony E. Carpenter; his great grandchildren, Brayden and Paxton Williford; and his siblings, S. T., Frank, Sam, Barry, Gordon and Nelly.

He is survived by: his spouse Beverly Edgin Carpenter; his daughters, Ethelyn Elaine Carpenter of North Augusta, Melissa Payton (Virgil) of Jackson and Tonya Carpenter Hartley of North Augusta; and his sister Eva Burke. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and many special nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Christian Heritage Church Building Fund, 285 Ascauga Lake Rd. Graniteville, SC 29829.
