He was predeceased by : his parents, James "Jim" Jacob and Nora Aliene McLain Gainey; his wife Cora Lee Roscoe Gainey; his sons, David Gainey and Donald Ray Gainey, Sr.; and his brothers, Redmond of Irby, J. E., W. P. and Bill Gainey.
He is survived by : his grandchildren, Mark Howard of Kannapolis, NC, Lisa Cline (Ivey) of Davidson, NC, Donald Ray Gainey, Jr. of Kannapolis, NC and Tammy Gainey Roberts (Gary) of Lancaster, SC. He is also survived by 13 great – great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
