He was predeceased by: his wife Lois Nelms Hightower; his parents, James Duckworth Hightower and Evie Savannah Payne Hightower; his son Douglas W. Hightower, Sr.; his siblings, Lee Hightower, Hoyt Hightower, Grady Hightower, Richard Hightower, James Hightower, Ben Hightower, Kathleen Hightower, Jennie Holbrooks, Lillie Mae Martin, Becky Tate, Eunice Cobb, Ruth Hester and Florence Miller; and his grandson Christopher Patterson.
He is survived by: his daughters, Sandra McDonald (John) of Whitsett, NC and Shirley Mason (Lloyd) of Westminster; and his sister Frances Tate. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
