He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Marshall Sims and Joyce Knowles Pickens (Yancy Elbert Pickens); his spouse Kay McKenzie Craft Sims; his son Howard Allen Sims; and his sister Anne Sims DeYoung (Ted).
He is survived by: his children, William Richard Sims of Simpsonville and Ella McKenzie Sims Barbery (Jay) of Greenville; his granddaughters, Cassidy, Kendall, Caroline, McKenzie, Charlotte and Sally; his great grandchild Autumn; and his brother Paul Howard Sims (Diane). He is also survived by in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
