He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter James Thompson and Irene Allen Thompson; his son William Dale Thompson; his siblings, Jimmy Thompson, Billy Thompson and Ruth Richburg; and his great grandchild Greyson Hancock.
He is survived by: his wife Kathy Geddings Thompson; his children, Theresa McElveen Brown, James Kevin Thompson, Franklin Thompson (Casey), Sabrina McWilliams (Clinton) and Samantha Mathis (Erik); his siblings, Betty Prescott, May Lineberger (Bob), Kay Sprowls (Rick), John Thompson (Susie), Tommy Thompson (Sandy) and Charlie Thompson (Gloria); and his friend John Geddings. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
