He was predeceased by: his parents, Leslie Norman Gowin and Freda Baum Gowin; his wife Laura Ruth Grove Gowin; and his siblings, Mildred Fritz, Norman Gowin and Arnold Gowin.

He is survived by: his children, Charles Gowin (Kathleen), Shirley Callahan (David) of Gaffney, SC, Carl Gowin (Claudia) of San Antonio and Sherree Gowin of Columbus, Ohio; and his siblings, Donald Gowin of West Plains, Robert Gowin of Jerseyville, Wilbur Gowin of Jerseyville, Ronald Gowin of Jerseyville and Joyce Tappy of East Alton. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
