He was predeceased by : his parents, Thomas Henry and Mabel Ruth Welchert; and his siblings, Lawrence Chalmer Thompson, Linda Sue Harbison and Daniel Duane Thompson.

He is survived by : his wife Mary Ann Thompson; his daughter Laura J. Thompson-Fresenius; his daughter-in-law Jacquelyn D. Thompson-Fresenius; his grandchildren, Erika K. Brown and Robert D. Brown; his sister Gloria Ann Hawley; and his siblings-in-law, Michael Hawley, Wilma Thompson and Lilian Nugent. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
