He was predeceased by: his adoptive parents, John Johnson Brown Thunder and Julia Brown Thunder (American Horse); his parents, Matthew Eagle Heart and Mabel Eagle Heart (Thunder Bull); his siblings, Leroy Brown Thunder, Emerson Poor Bear and Victoria Iron Cloud (Eagle Heart); his half-sister Louise White; his brother William "Wazi" Eagle Heart; his adoptive son Matthew "Matchie" King; and his granddaughter Veronica Rattler.
He is survived by: his wife Rosalie Brown Thunder (Aragon) of Kyle, SD; and his children, Joseph "Joey" Brown Thunder, Jr. of California, John Brown Thunder of Arizona, Ted Brown Thunder of Wisconsin, Tamara King of Rapid City, SD, Lance King of Minnesota, Denise Red Owl of Kyle, SD and Charlie King, Jr. of Kyle, SD.
