He was predeceased by : his spouse Sadie Venenga; his daughter Angela Hofer; and his sisters, Joanne Geraets and Mary Ellen Scholten. He is survived by : his children, Dave Christensen (Tammy) of San Antonio, TX, Al Christensen (Renae) of Sioux Falls, SD and Deborah Gute (Ron) of Hartford, SD; his siblings, Judy Hansen (Norman), Sharon Weiland (David), Nancy Weiland (Jim), Peggy Scholten, Susan Lund (Tim), Tom Scholten (Theresa), Monica Collenbaugh (Dan), Adam Scholten, Robert Scholten (Cheri), Joleen Bos (Duane) and Steve Scholten (Joyce); and his brother-in-law Patrick Geraets. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
