He was predeceased by: his parents, Barney Arends and Shirley Arends (Simons); his children, Brian Arends and Peanut; his grandson Chase Hawks; and his brother Norman Arends.
He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth; his daughters, Brenda Hawks of Lewistown, MT and Casey Englin (Josh) of Rapid City, SD; his stepchildren, Samantha Henson (Chris) of Chickasha, OK, Crystal Peterson (Dustin Duprel) of Atlanta, GA and Benjamin Peterson of Sturgis, SD; his brother Clark Arends of Enning, SD; his grandchildren, Rani, Ragen, Oakley, Elijah, Kloe, Kanan, Haley, Breana, Willow and Crystal; and his great grandchildren, Gavin and Nolan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to The Chase Hawks Association or to the Mayo Clinic.
