He was predeceased by : his wife Iva Dean; his son Danny; his parents, Freelin Clevenger and Siddie Ratliff; and his brother Elmer.

He is survived by : his daughter Pat Nickels (Nick, Sr.); and his grandchildren, Nick Nickels, Jr. (Julie), Christine Dalton (Eric), Rebecca Higdon (Patrick), Angelique Jones and Josh Clevenger. He is also survived by great-grandchildren (9), and great-great-grandchildren.
