He was predeceased by: his daughter Sharon "Sherry" Patterson Whitaker; and his parents, Carney Austin Sr. and Frances Davis Patterson. He is survived by: his wife Faye Jenkins Patterson; his daughter Susan Hargis (Rick); and his grandsons, Matthew Whitaker (Lindsey), Tyler Whitaker (Rebecca) and Austin Whitmer (Payton). He is also survived by eight great grandchildren.
