She was predeceased by : her former life partner Basil Winthrop Whittier; and her grandson Tyler Whittier. She is survived by : her husband L. T. Simmons; her sons, Mike Whittier (Emily), Steve Whittier (Cathy) and Bob Whittier; her grandchildren, Rachel Burris (John), Amy Ware (Jason), Spencer Whittier (Ali), Carter Whittier (Megan) and Maya Whittier; and her great grandchild Martin Burris.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made Tyner United Methodist Church, Chattanooga, Tennessee.
