He was predeceased by : his parents, Henry Percy Richardson and Leone Julia Hille Richardson; and his siblings, H. P. Richardson, Jr., Sam Hille Richardson and Mary Francis Lusk.

He is survived by : his wife Dorothy Grey Zazzi Richardson; his children, John Richardson, Jr. (Connie), Steven Richardson (Lisa) and Julia Grey Richardson; his grandchildren, Lillian, Stephanie Miller (Brooks), Tyler Richardson (Amanda), Brittany Hicks (Joe), Samuel Richardson (Micah) and Jereme Richardson (Laura); and his great grandchildren, Grey Miller, Ryder Richardson, Hille Miller, Sheridan Richardson, Tyhler Hicks, Lucas Hicks, Wyatt Hicks and Natalie Richardson.
