He is survived by : his fiancée Alice Mosley of Chapel Hill, TN; his children, James Poteete (Stacy) of Cumberland Furnace, TN, Tammy Poteete of Eagleville, TN and Lee Cormier (Tony) of Chapel Hill, TN; his stepson Jamie Baxter (Katherine) of Chapel Hill, TN; his siblings, Tandy Poteete (Kathy) of College Grove, TN, Janice Lowe (Larry) of Eagleville, TN, Peggy Pitts (Larry) of Cunningham, TN and Vickie Brake (Roger) of College Grove, TN; his grandchildren, Alex Newton (Cameron), Alyssa Hollingsworth, Anna, Zachary Rabun, Jaimee Poteete, Madison, Wyatt Cormier, Tyler, Aaron Baxter, Carter and Peighton Walk; and his great grandchildren, Lyla, Kylie, Laney and Asher Newton.

“So very sad to hear of the passing of Jimmy P. He was such a good hearted and kind person. One of the best basketball players I've seen. He and my husband played a few times at College Grove Rec Ctr. Jimmy always had a great attitude and would make you laugh with his stories. He will definitely be missed. Prayers for comfort for his family.”
