He was predeceased by: his parents, Andy Matheson and Eliza O'Neil Matheson; and his siblings, Marcella Stoffregen, Richard Matheson, G. W. Matheson and John Matheson.
He is survived by: his wife Jackie McGee Matheson of Elizabethton; his children, Angie Odom (Ernie), Eric Matheson (Keisha), Teresa McKinney (Stacy) and Rusty Pippin (Sarah); his sister Shirley Sharpe; and his grandchildren, Hope Williams, Angel Greene, Avery Matheson, Rhylee Hinkle, Isabella Trent, Jacob McKinney, Riley McKinney, Callie Pippin and Nate Pippin. He is also survived by several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
