He was predeceased by : his parents, Willis Edward Ayres, Jr. and Evelyn Thompson; and his daughter Hannah Catherine Ayres. He is survived by : his wife Marilyn; his sons, Morgan and Cooper Ayres (Liz); his sister Beth Campbell (Bill); and his stepchildren, Kendall Gibson and Taylor Gibson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Parkinson's Foundation or Harvest Church, Germantown.
