He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Elkins and Dolphia Elkins; and his sister Hazel Pickel. He is survived by: his wife Clara Elkins; and his brothers, Jesse Elkins and Weyman Elkins. He is also survived by several nieces and one nephew.
