He was predeceased by: his parents, Burt Oakes and Zoe Ida Oakes; his wife Norma Jean Oakes; and his siblings, Edward Oakes, Darrel Oakes, Melvin Oakes, Carl Oakes, Willard Oakes, David Oakes, Dorthy Claypool and Shirley Nienhuis.
He is survived by: his brother Bryan Oakes; his children, Janet Baker (Tony) of Huntingdon, Tennessee and Bryan Oakes (Mary) of Huntingdon, Tennessee; his sister Jessie Keck of Twins Oak, Michigan; his grandchildren, Burt Baker (Shelly), Blake Baker (Melissa), Steven Oakes (Chelsea) and Justin Oakes (Dawn); and his great grandchildren, Chesney Baker, Bennett Baker, Beau Baker, Reid Baker, Olivia Oakes, Gunner Oakes, Conner Oakes and Scarlett Oakes.
