He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred Vaala and Mollie Vaala (Undlin); his son Roger Allen (Joan); and his sisters, Berma and Phyllis.
He is survived by: his former wife Joan Vaala (Benson); his wife Charlotte Vaala (Stasser); his children, Janet Smith (Jim) of Moorhead, MN, Melissa, Jennifer, Adrian, Ruth Vaala-Strong (Jim) of Huntingdon, TN, Scott, Mali, Nancy Vaala of Omaha, NE, Linda Dishman (Scott) of North Platte, NE, Margaret Joan, Pon, Pan, Daniel Vaala (Tamella) of Madison, MN, Angela, Alyssa, Ana, Andrea and Susan Vaala of Omaha, NE; his stepson Fred Stasser (Rachel) of Lubbock, TX; his children, Shandra, Tiffany, Kristina, Alan Stasser (Susan) of Kingfisher, OK, Talia, Autumn, Lisha and Lindsey; his sister Anna Mae Dessonville; and his parents-in-law, Helen Werner, Ellsworth, Clarice Olson and Wayne Lehman. He is also survived by 25 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established in Roy's memory to assist people in need.
