He was predeceased by: his parents, Hobert Mathes and Bessie Mathes; his siblings, Jewell Gulley and Henry Mathes; and his grandson Hunter Markland.
He is survived by: his wife Velma Mathes; his children, Heather Markland (David) and Travis Mathes; and his grandson Austin Markland.
A graveside service was held on Sunday, October 26th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery (396 Oak Grove Rd, Johnson City, TN 37615).
