He was predeceased by: his former wife Dorothy Norris Wilhoit; and his brothers, Bill, Roger, Dennis, Howard and Kenneth.

He is survived by: his wife Freda Ricker Wilhoit; his sons, John Wilhoit (Sandra), Stephen Wilhoit of Johnson City and Tim Wilhoit (Cheryl Jeter); his stepdaughter Donna Rose Matthews (Roger) of Knoxville; and his pet Shih Tzu. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Trinity Baptist Church Music Program.
