He was predeceased by: his parents, Sherrill Garst and Francis Beals Garst; and his daughter Lisa Street. He is survived by: his wife Verna Flowers Garst; his son James Richard Garst; his grandchildren, Destiney Garst-Greene (Dylan) and Caleb Jones; and his siblings, Jean Couch, Glenda Phillips, Ruth Odom, Phyllis Couch, Patsy Harlan, Earldene Hignite and David Garst. He is also survived by several nephews and nieces.
