With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of James Francis Canty of Kingsport, Tennessee, born in Pascagoula, Mississippi, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on May 19, 2024 at the age of 78. He was predeceased by : his parents, Rev. Francis V. Canty and Myrtle Greer Canty; and his brother Jonathan. He is survived by : his pets, Harper and Boomer; his wife Judy Williams Canty; his children, Karen Prillhart (Alan), Elizabeth Dunn (Lee) and Mark Canty (Christi); his grandchildren, Dr. Alexis Kutz (Zack), Dr. Cameron James Prillhart, Zachary Dunn (Riley), Lucas Dunn, Ruby Canty, Olive Canty, Austin Thompson and Maddy Sexton; and his great grandchild Graham Francis Kutz.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, May 22nd 2024 from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at the Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church (125 Coley St, Kingsport, TN 37660). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 22nd 2024 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Thursday, May 23rd 2024 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Oak Hill Memorial Park (800 Truxton Dr, Kingsport, TN 37660).
