He was predeceased by : his parents, Ella Stanley (Sims) and Henry Sims (Patricia Sims); the mother of his children Mary Jackson (Sims); his son Bobby Sims; his close friend Po-Po; and also Sherry Griffith (Sims).

He is survived by : his sister Sue Lanza; his children, Sabrina Burkhart, Tony Sims and Joey Sims; his stepchildren, Robert Goulet, Michael Snell and Peggy Palladino; his grandchildren, Brian Cole, Stephen Carter, Mandie Sutherland, Dustin Sims, Deven Sims, Jonathan Maulick, Dylan Sims, Emily Maulick Taylor, Cody Sims, Jayden Sims, Kiera Sims and Morgan Burkhart; and his stepgrandchildren, Rebecca Rice, Josh Snell, Ethan Snell, Vincent Palladino, Lindsay Burkhart, Andrew Goulet, Jake Goulet and Hannah Palladino. He is also survived by 13 Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews.

Visitation was held on Friday, April 19th 2024 at 5:00 PM at the Browders Chapel (538 Browders Chapel Rd, Hiltons, VA 24258). A funeral service was held on Friday, April 19th 2024 at 5:30 PM at the same location.

He never knew a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need, including upon his death the donation of his organs where he was able to help cancer and burn victims.
