She was predeceased by: her parents, Samuel McMurry and Edith McMurry; and her brothers, Mike, Fred, Ralph, Donny and Gary McMurry.
She is survived by: her husband Ranesom Cates; her son Gene Cates (Kathy); her grandchildren, Kendall Cates and Cameron Cates (Anna); her great grandchildren, Violet and Chloe Cates; and her siblings, Brenda Thurman (Hugh), Judy Longmire, Dale McMurry (Sherry), Alvin "Bub" McMurry (Linda), Terry McMurry (Donna) and Howard McMurry.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 15th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Powell Chapel (2000 Powell Drive 37849). A funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 15th 2025 at 6:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 16th 2025 from 10:45 AM to 11:00 AM and at 11:00 AM at the Cate Cemetery (1903 Baldwin Cate Rd, New Market, TN 37820).
In lieu of flowers, family is requesting donations be made in Dorothy's honor to the Sjögren's Foundation.
